Students as producers of knowledge: Digital (Xerte) Resources Final Year research projects

Summary: This workshop will present a discipline-specific perspective on the use of Xerte within Life Sciences curricula. It will showcase the benefits of working in collaborative partnerships with students in curriculum development activities (in this case, guidance for fellow students on how to use Xerte), discuss how students can use Xerte to create digital resources as their Final Year research projects and provide an opportunity, within the workshop, for delegates to gain “hands-on” experience of using this student-generated guidance to create their own Xerte resources.
The session will include:
- An introduction to the Making Digital History project at Lincoln;
- Consideration of the development in Life Sciences, by students, of guidance for fellow students on how to use Xerte and students’ perspective on this process;
- Hands-on experience for delegates in using this guidance to develop their own digital resources;
- Showcasing of the resources developed within the workshop and discussion of the transferability of this activity to Lincoln;
- Discussion of the benefits of providing alternative (i.e. not traditional laboratory or literature) final year research projects.
Preparation: Delegates are kindly requested to bring digital materials (text, web links, images, quizzes etc.) that they might like to include into a Xerte resource with them to the workshop.
